How to Be on Camera
Being on camera is not intuitive. It takes lots of repetition and practice to get more comfortable.
Tips for being on camera-
- Do you like to record by yourself or do you like to have people with you?
- Imagine talking to a friend or a family member. Print out a picture of them and tape it near the camera.
- Don't try to go by a script. Outline your video and refer to short bullet points to stay on track.
- Get in the zone before you film your videos. Do something you enjoy such as listening to music, doing yoga, or watching a funny video.
- Project what you are saying by speaking from your diaphragm. It makes you seem more confident.
- Keep in mind, you can cut anything out.
- Smile, make a joke, and laugh. Your viewers will be able to relate to you better.
- Make sure you are well rested.
- Make sure you are hydrated.
- Look into the lens, not the view finder.
- Raise your energy levels when you're on camera.
- Practice and improve with every video.
Action Step - Get Constructive Feedback
Quick Tip: Find someone who will give you honest, constructive feedback and have them watch your videos.
Quick Tip: Ask them to write their feedback on a piece of paper or email it to you.
