Follow Jim's experience with a great video idea that kind of fell flat with his audience and learn how by just cutting some parts of the video down, it could have been the success he imagined.
Action Step - Walk Through Your Idea Shot-by-shot
How To: Think about your viewers and what they would want to see after clicking on the video. Remove everything that doesn't fit that description. Then, after filming, piece the video together, watch it, and then cut more. Cut until the video no longer works, and then add back in those last few things you cut. Only by taking the cutting too far will you likely find the optimal content for your video.
Note: This exercise doesn't have to be done for every video. It doesn't always make sense. Sometimes real and raw videos are the way to go. But it's a valuable exercise to do periodically, especially in a video with story elements.
