A channel archetype is a reason why people watch your channel. Most channels are a combination of the 3 main archetypes.
We categorize it into 3.75 archetypes-
- Information- Where people come to learn skills. They want to accomplish something with the information. Strengths- It's often easier to monetize with a smaller audience. You also have a big advantage on search-ability with the content. Weaknesses- People are less likely to subscribe to your channel.
- Entertainment- People watch these types of channels because they want to experience something. Strengths- They have a high capability of spreading. You don't have to know the person in the video to care about it. Weaknesses- Monetization can be harder. If you don't leverage a trend, it can be very hard to get found.
- Connection- People want to watch your videos because of you because your content feels relatable. Many times, vlog style channels create an audience that care about them and they want to watch every video. Strengths- The audience is habitual. A connection type channel has the capability to build a large amount of baseline views. The videos can be easier to produce. It can be easier to monetize because sponsors can see who your audience is. Weaknesses- In the beginning, it can be hard to get some traction. You need to be very intentional about the content you create so you can appeal to a broader audience.
- Search Focused- The entire channel is built around answering search queries. You will most often see this with channels that have a website first. They want to build a channel to support that website to either lead traffic to their website or to win search results on Google. If you're the only one making that type of search video, your video will most likely win. It can be great support for a website. It also can be great to lead to other areas. Weaknesses- Your video is most likely only applicable to a small group of people so YouTube most likely won't suggest it to other types of groups.
